shawbury integrated welfare facility
The Integrated Welfare Facility at RAF Shawbury was completed in March 2014 and was the first facility of its kind, designed to unite officers and junior ranks while maintaining areas that could be closed off for different functions. Originally the facility was a large bar area with x3 bar serveries used as standalone counters. The bar had interconnecting rooms used to segregate junior ranks and families.
Our new design for this project incorporated all interconnecting rooms and back of house areas to create one facility that would service all ranks. The project included, demolition, structural support works, roof construction, dividing wall construction, new suspended ceiling installation, extensive M&E works, full internal decoration including feature wallpaper, new floor finishes, new furniture throughout, privacy screens, new servery counters, new back counter fittings, a full signage package and a fully fitted commercial kitchen to MOD DMG18 standard including a new extraction system.
The project was completed over a timeline of 12 weeks. The main challenge in this environment was gaining approvals for our workforce and deliveries to access the site. Working on a active MOD base on such a large project required us to follow strict rules and security procedurers on site, while maintaining our high health & safety standard.
